EastEnders actress Heather Peace has told fans she has been diagnosed with breast cancer, and has already undergone treatment.

The 49-year-old, best known for her role as Eve Panesar-Unwin in the BBC soap, revealed in an emotional Instagram post she has completed chemotherapy and feels “very lucky” following months of treatment.

She captioned a clip she posted online on Monday (May 12): “This video is an important part of my recent journey, which I wanted to share with you.

“I’ve been on quite a road for many months now. I was diagnosed with breast cancer at the beginning of October. Since then I’ve undergone surgery and recovery over the Christmas period and today my chemotherapy journey ended. To conclude – I’ve just picked up my medal.”

Heather was diagnosed with breast cancer in October 2023, and has continued working on EastEnders throughout parts of her treatment.

She heartbreakingly shared: “But I’m forever changed. During this time I’ve narrowed my world. I’ve had the most precious time with my wife Ellie and our 3 girls; Annie, Jessie & Lola. Just trying to appreciate every moment of them. I’ve stayed still.

“I’ve found joy in the simplest of things. Interactions with others have felt honest and real because I’ve had no capacity for small talk. It has felt like such a personal shift….”

In her video, which featured behind-the-scenes moments filmed during her time on the show, she thanked the production team and highlighted the support of those around her, while revealing she has needed a wig fitted during her health fight.

“There have been so many positives,” she said. “Thank you to the whole EE team for going above and beyond. Particularly our amazing makeup team. And to Alex Rouss for the original wig and (stylist) Linda for the spot on cut. I’ve felt totally supported by you all.”

Heather also expressed gratitude for her family, praising her wife Ellie and their three daughters – Annie, Jessie and Lola – for their love and encouragement.

She said: “There have been so many positives… Just trying to appreciate every moment of them.” The actor also extended heartfelt thanks to medical staff who cared for her.

“Thank you to the NHS. You are wonderful, skilled people. You treated me efficiently. You gave me dignity and showed me kindness. It’s so appreciated,” she said.

Heather concluded her post by reflecting on how her health fight had changed her, saying: “Life feels very different now, but it’s wonderful. I will continue to cherish and be grateful for all I am blessed with. I feel very lucky. With love, Heather xxx.”

Heather’s announcement was met with a wave of support from fans and friends online who flooded the comments section of her post about her health fight with well-wishes.

Lacey Turner said: “My superhero !! Love you always mate.” Kellie Bright replied: “I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again…. WARRIOR WOMAN!!!! Love the bones of you.” Emma Barton commented: “Love you so much, you beautiful, strong, mental, brave lady… You’re frigging Ace!!!”

Clair Norris shared: “Beautiful inside and out ! Thank you for sharing you’re story.” Diane Parish added: “Tough and courageously vulnerable. That makes a true warrior. Admire you more than you could know. We got you all the way!”
